Weili Shen

Asian Markets Analyst

Weili Shen brings significant experience both in the US and China in the areas of international trade, export marketing, and commercial laws. In her work Ms. Shen has conducted analyses on market access and food import and export requirements. Ms. Shen’s international background provides a valuable perspective that will assist AFJ clients in identifying market opportunities, developing business strategies and building government relations.

Her experience in China includes serving five years as a Corporate Counsel at BlueScope Butler (Shanghai) Inc. with responsibility for reviewing contracts, managing government affairs and assisting with complex business deals. Beyond the corporate world, Ms. Shen also builds substantial experience in non-profit sector. She was the Program Manager for several US-China cooperative programs. Most recently, Ms. Shen worked at the University of Maryland China Initiative. In this role, she provided interpretation for Chinese officials, scheduled visits to government agencies, and maintained relationships with Chinese partners. She has spent many years as a manager for large and boutique organizations and has supported agricultural projects in the U.S., Canada and Greater China. 

Ms. Shen was born in Shanghai, China and is a graduate of Shanghai International Studies University Law School. She also received a Master Degree in International Affairs from the University of California, San Diego along with coursework in WTO law at the Thomas Jefferson School of Law. While at graduate school, she has completed independent research on China’s trade barriers to imported meat as well as SPS and TBT measures. Ms. Shen is fluent in English and Mandarin Chinese.
